2020: Distanced but Closer

Students participating in this exhibition were invited to suggest a title. This title was proposed by Tori Thomas, an undergraduate Painting student.

The call for this exhibition went out to all Tyler students, inviting work inspired by the experience of this peculiar, troubling and surprising year.  2020 has forced us to confront ourselves as well as our society.  It has propelled many social issues, unnoticed by some, into the foreground for all.  It has caused riffs and dangers.  For some it brought emotional chasms, despite close physical proximity.  For others it brought physical chasms, despite close emotional proximity.  And yet, even within the vast complexity of these challenges, and despite the distance imposed between people and places, small gifts and surprises have also emerged.  2020: Distanced but Closer offers a glimpse into the year that caught us all by surprise.

2020: Distanced but Closer was organized by Dr. Renee Jackson and Dr. Leah Modigliani.
