Brief Snapshots

Theresa Harris

I have always been interested in cartoonish art in my personal works, rather than serious still lives and model drawings or paintings. Using printmaking and/or digital media, I personally like to create drawings and stop motion animations to tell a weird, outlandish story. I like to use bold, flat colors in my work that has a level of relatability to it. With my work, I take care in making a broad image that seems easy to understand, but there is usually something cynical in the cartoonish world, usually played off as a joke to criticize social norms. In my professional work, I still maintain that bold color and cartoonish style, as even if I cannot be cynical or joke, the style is still mine, and not somebody else’s work. I wish to find a balance between a commentary and poking light at something, as I believe we can learn through humor, and sometimes even understand our thoughts and feelings better through it, rather than anything too serious and depressing. In my still images, I enjoy adding a narrative to my work, as it brings life to a still image.

Hello, I'm Theresa Harris, a printmaking major here, graduating this spring! I believe life and art should be fun. I like to capture little moments and create fun worlds and stories around those ideas.Capturing a moment and making a piece of work capturing that feeling through emotions has been my main goal in art. Using cartoons and comics, which I have loved since I was a child, I continue to work on this using illustration, and more recently, animations. After Tyler, I hope to work in the illustration field, combing both digital art and printmaking.
