Art Therapy, ‘20
Tyler School of Art and Architecture

Art is a vessel for communication, a space for emotions that words cannot describe. Creating is how I communicate with myself about the world around me, how I exist within it, and perceive it. My art is typically created to work through my own words, emotions, and thoughts. It can be for me to later look at or to focus on the process of creation. The visual of my own emotions and thoughts brings clarity. The constants in my art are media, use of colors, and subject matter usually relating to myself in some way. My process and product are about understanding whether that is directly related to my own mind and body or to society, the world, and my emotions about them. My work, while visually eclectic is about processing, education, and understanding. Having a curious and attractive product at the end is just an exciting addition.

Isabel is a visual artist and aspiring art therapist from Westminster, Colorado. Coming to Philadelphia to learn and grow from Tyler’s Art Therapy program was a monumental experience that influenced more than just her art and education. Her growth as an independent individual, as a sister and daughter, a friend, as a member of society, an alley as a teacher, and artist has been affected through her time here. Her perspective of life, education, and the world that exists around her during her time in the Art Therapy program is depicted constantly throughout her work.
