Mirror World - Reality/Hallucination
Guannan Wang (Corina), MFA 2023, Metals / Jewelry / CAD-CAM
Do the things you see match what you feel when you touch them? Is there a differentiation between what you envisioned and what you encountered? Are you optimistic and cheerful, or do you feel depressed and pessimistic? Do you consider yourself rational and strong, or do you see yourself as frail and emotional? Are you eagerly anticipating the future or trapped in memories and unable to move on? Is the person you see in the mirror an accurate representation of yourself? The surface of the water reflects the inner world, and the imaginary world and scenery in our mind are interwoven and merged. The external and internal aspects of our personality are divided and intertwined.

Guannan Wang (Corina) was born in Beijing, China. She has practiced drawing and painting since a young age, then left to study abroad in the United States in 2008. She received a certificate in Painting in 2016 from the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, then transferred to the Metals/Jewelry/CAD-CAM program at Tyler School of Art and Architecture. As a former painter, she captures the qualities of painting in the jewelry she makes. Guannan Wang (Corina) is an artist who explores the intersection of painting and jewelry design. Her work is driven by a fascination with the visual qualities of painting and how these can be translated into wearable objects. Drawing on her background in painting, she combines contrasting solid and wireframe forms to create striking, delicate, and bold pieces. Using CAD, ZBrush, and Meshmixer, Wang designs her pieces digitally before printing them in nylon. She then applies layers of Airbrush Acrylic paint to create a gradient effect, building up the visual hierarchy of the overall color. Each layer is carefully polished to create a composition that is both visually compelling and structurally sound. Wang received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Metal/Jewelry/CAD-CAM from Tyler School of Art and Architecture in 2021 and is currently pursuing a Master of Fine Arts degree from the same institution. Her work has been exhibited in several group shows, including the 2023 MFA Thesis Exhibition at Tyler School of Art and Architecture. Through her unique approach to jewelry design, Wang invites viewers to see the beauty in unexpected forms and materials. Her work is a testament to the power of creativity and the endless possibilities of artistic expression.
