I consider my work all a part of an exploration into an idea I have always struggled with: What makes a painting meaningful. Through years of frustration in attempts to make profound and meaningful work, I found that I am far more interested in what makes art un-meaningful. I became inspired by the visual abundance of cheap glitz and glam and its tasteless and shallow perception that follows. What further intrigues me is what happens when I added these kitschy materials to the "meaningful" art I am captivated by. This being people and figures. What I have found when I mend the two together is a strong passion for iconography. Inspired by art nouveau, religious renaissance paintings, and decorative art, I find myself pursuing a body a work surrounding regal iconographic feminine figures embellished with cheap glitter, gems, and other gaudy materials.
